Rules are made up
Why get lost in limiting beliefs when there’s endless opportunity in the pursuit of potential?
Every day we make choices within the context of circumstances — circumstances that we each have unique experience and perspectives on. The more experience we get, the more perspective we have and that is a beautiful thing.
So lately, I’ve been out and about gathering new experiences. Random dinners, speaking engagements, curated learning events, in-person yap sessions and virtual catch-ups have eaten up my free time and reminded me of the power in my community. The power of my voice.
Over the last few years, I’ve built this business pretty quietly and bills got paid by me doing my thing in the background. I’ve had the luxury of choosing my work, changing what I didn’t like, hiring different forms of support, and taking my time to develop Anthelo into what is it today. But now that it’s here, I have to direct the future of this business and the partners I’ve gained along with it.
In the past keeping to myself kept me safe, but the next level of growth is going to force me out of hiding. Part of me is sad because I am my absolute favorite thing to gatekeep, however, I have things to do and a voice to use.
Like all great leaders, I too suffer from the occasional bout of imposter syndrome, then I remember rules are literally made up and I trust myself to do what makes sense for me, for my business and for my clients.
And all the stuff I used to worry about? It doesn’t even matter.
Case and point — Last week, a last minute invite sat me in front of 20+ executives at a private dinner event in my favorite non-Anthelo crewneck with gym sneakers and a bare face.
Naturally, had this interaction been planned, I would have showed up looking at least slightly more professional. Still, I showed up as myself and that proved to be plenty despite looking like a homeless person who robbed a nice gym.
Sometimes it’s good to set the bar low initially. Next time, they’ll get the real razzle dazzle😉
Another example? My latest merch. I usually only make merch for myself because I like to rep my own brand, but this latest design has caught a lot of eye balls and it’s time to spread the love. Keep an eye out for pre-order access to the t-shirt everyone wants!
These days I’m thinking big and bigger, I encourage you to do the same and make it fun because rules are made up ya silly goose.
